In Memorium

Tony Heigl

If ever there was a man who promoted the positive aspects of metal detecting, it was Tony Heigl. Besides metal detecting, Tony was a life long student of archeology, world history and the sciences. There were stories galore, most of which (we think) were true. Sometimes it was hard to tell since he had the uncanny ability to weave a story on any subject.

Tony made numerous metal detecting trips with Jimmy Sierra to England and Europe. He worked with Passport in Time detecting for artifacts on the Hogg Railroad site. He volunteered with Special Olympics. He was featured, along with OTTS, on the OPB program “Oregon Field Guide”. He worked with his daughter on several marine biology projects. He shared his knowledge with everyone who expressed an interest and did presentations to our club and to the neighborhood schools. Tony took some of his detecting finds to the grade schools and talked about what you might find with a metal detector. He took along several metal detectors and turned the kids loose in the playground where he had hidden “treasures” for them to find.

In recognition of his contributions to our club, Tony was awarded a Lifetime Membership of OTTS. His spirit will forever be a part of our club. We extend our sympathies to Tony’s son and daughter and their families. Thank you for sharing him with us.
