Clarence and Mary Sparks

Appeared in the November 2004 issue of the OTTS newsletter.
Clarence and Mary Sparks are two of our very active members. They were in the club for less than a year when they took on the Find of the Month committee, and held that position for at least two years. About nine years ago, Clarence's brother sent him a Compass metal detector. They took the detector to the Compass factory for some repairs and they referred them to me and in turn I referred them to the OTTS. They felt very welcome in the club and have been very involved the past nine years. They have both been board members, each one has served for two years as the OTTS Club President. They have both served on the competition hunt commitee, OTTS members only hunt committee, and always active on our annual Christmas Party. They are also White's and Tesoro dealers. They met on a blind date, were engaged in three weeks and marred six months later, seventeen years ago.

Clarence works for Allied Systems in Sherwood, Oregon as a welder fitter. They build log loaders, chip dozers, containers and marine cranes. Mary is a sales representative for C2F, Inc in Beaverton, Oregon and sells art supplies to retail stores. Her sales territory is the greater Portland/Vancouver area and the Columbia River Gorge to Walla Walla and Tri-Cities, Washington area.

They have made three trips to England, (just back from the last one). For Mary, her best finds are a platinum and six diamond anniversary ring, an 1805 one third guinea gold coin (from England), a 10AD-65AD Celtic silver Unit (also from England-2004) and many friends. Clarence: A huge silver and turquoise bracelet, white gold wedding band, 14K man's ring with a red stone, engraved 12/25/22, numerous Roman coins and hammered silver coins in England, plus a Saxon stirrup mount donated to the Castle Museum in Norwich, England.

When called upon, these members never say no, and we are lucky to have them as a part of our great club.
