Jim and Mary Cornwell
Jim Cornwell: Board Member 2003, Runs the Big Raffle and works the Raffle Table. Mary Cornwell: Board Member 2003, Works the Raffle Table. Appeared in the April 2004 issue of the OTTS newsletter. Jim and Mary joined OTTS when they made a move from California to Hillsboro to be closer to their daughter Dianne and their two grand daughters several years ago. Jim retired from the Navy in 1977 as an aviator and Captain after serving his country for 32 years. Jim and Mary immediately became "working members" and have served on many committees, and as board members. Jim is now raffle chairman and buys all of those great coins that are going to lucky winners each meeting. Jim started detecting in 1981 and Mary a short time later. They have both made several trips to England on the Jimmy Sierra tours. Jim's oldest find is a Roman coin, dating 211 BC-207 BC. Many of their coins and artifacts recovered in England are on display at the Castle Museum, Norwich. England. Jim also enjoys hunting and fishing, studying history and once was an avid coin collector. As a Naval Aviator he truly loved it. In 1960, the US Geological Service named a mountain in Antarctica after him for his photo mapping of rarely seen mountains in that frozen waste. Jim says flying is not so much a profession as a disease-once hooked, you are hooked. A good bit like our hobby. Mary's best find is a 15th century English Nobles Emarald gold ring. |
