Mike Maloney and Sandie Peters

Appeared in the March 2005 issue of the OTTS newsletter.

After graduating from Oregon State University, Mike joined the US Air Force and went off to "The Wild Blue Yonder." He flew 215 combat missions as a Tactical Fighter Pilot in Southeast Asia, in a Douglas A-1 Skyraider on troop and supply interdiction missions at night, as well as Search and Rescue missions during the day. After returning to the States, he was an instructor pilot in the Northrop T-38 and was based in Oklahoma until returning to civilian life in 1973. He then worked in the paper industry for 28 years and retired in 2001.

Sandie has owned and operated a hair and nail salon in Beaverton for the past 22 years. She still thoroughly enjoys her work and, although cutting back slightly on her hours to make time for metal detecting vacations, she doesn't plan to retire just yet.

Mike began metal detecting in 1993, using a White's Eagle Spectrum. He later got a White's DFX, allowing Sandie to swing the Spectrum in a hobby that she has enthusiastically adopted. Mike then upgraded to a Minelab Explorer XS which meant that Sandie could use the much lighter DFX.

"Significant Finds" by Mike and Sandie are rather mediocre compared to those of many fellow club members, but the FUN of 'getting out' is greater than it has ever been. When schedules allow, or while on vacation, metal detecting is a great reason to be outdoors and get some exercise.

Mike and Sandie joined OTTS in January of 2002. They have really enjoyed the camaraderie of fellow club members who are always willing to take the time to offer help and provide tips. Everyone in the club is so friendly! Mike & Sandie are aslo impressed by the quantity and quality of the myriad of items displayed in the Find-of-the-Month at each monthly meeting and the 'treasures' retrieved on monthly club outings.
