July 2004
by Tom Smith The July outing was at Council Crest Park, the highest point in the Portland city limits. Once the fog burned off, it was a perfect morning for twenty club members to be out looking for good finds.
The total amount of change found in our four hours of detecting was $41.50. There were also 5 silver rings found by Clarence Sparks, Janice Nicholson, Arnie Mauroni, Mike Young and Brad Weigandt. George Parker found a 1944-S dime and I found a 1951 quarter and three dimes, 1946, 1947-S and 1954-S.
I gave some prizes for closest to 73 points and closest to $1.47 found. Don Lieurance took home a Barber half-dollar by getting 69 points and Ron Rathbun took home a Seated Liberty half-dime with $1.30 found. We also drew a number for a Standing Liberty quarter which Ron Rathbun also won. The membership drawing silver dollar went to Jim Siel.
